SWAN Advocacy Network (formerly known as South Wiltshire Advocacy Network) was set up in 1999 to offer and promote an independent issue-based advocacy service for adults living within Salisbury District. Since this time the organisation has continued to grow in both stature and reputation and in 2003 became an independent registered charity.
In 2007 SWAN was commissioned by Wiltshire County Council to become the Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) provider for the local authority. At the same time Wiltshire County Council and Wiltshire Primary Care Trust also commissioned SWAN to extend advocacy services to all areas of Wiltshire (excluding Swindon).
